Message from Dr. Kenichi Ohmae, Committee Member

 My name is Kenichi Ohmae.
I am pleased to be a member of TEPCO’s Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee.

After the accident, I pointed out the possibility that not only the pressure vessels but the bottom of the containments were broken, and over the past year have been engaged in an analysis of the accident.

The accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant had initial physical causes, so that investigations should have looked into how the organizations and concerned parties responded to the accident. However, my understanding is that all the four accident investigation committees attributed the accident to physical reasons and natural phenomena such as the tsunami, without analyzing the real causes thereof.

As a consequence, countermeasures taken were forestalled, or those with which the people could be satisfied were not proposed.

At this time, I have learnt that Tokyo Electric Power Company will take responsibility to resolve the above issues. As for me, I have decided to participate in this Committee in order to contribute in my own way.

So far, the opinions on the accident expressed by Tokyo Electric Power Company differ substantially from my understanding, probably due to a lack of analytical capability or their nature that tends to keep the truth secret.

As I had once been involved in the design of nuclear reactors, I am determined to analyze in detail the situations surrounding the accident, to provide explanations in a way the people may easily understand, and to propose countermeasures, if any. It would be my pleasure to be able to participate in this work through collaboration with the other committee members.

Thank you very much in advance for your kind cooperation and understanding.
