Message from Dr. Charles Casto, Committee Member 2024

With over 45 years of nuclear experience as a reactor operator, regulator, and oversight leader, I look forward to continuing my contribution to nuclear safety at TEPCO as a member of the Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee. We will work together to transform the organization into the world's best nuclear operator with the highest standards, protecting Japan's people and environment.

As an American first responder to Japan in March of 2011, I was Japan's lead United States Federal Executive, working to help resolve the nuclear situation and protect people. Our team aided TEPCO and the Japanese government in providing advice and resources to meet the challenges. I personally experienced the devastation of the triple disaster. My year there during that time impacted my beliefs deeply. Nuclear professionals must strive to achieve safe and reliable daily operations. An accident can never happen again anywhere. We must provide a safe environment without the need for heroic acts.

The Nation of Japan needs a future of safe, reliable, and carbon-free nuclear power to enable the brightest future. The work at Fukushima Daiichi and throughout TEPCO will create a future that will benefit society greatly. I look forward to working with TEPCO to provide the "Energy for Every Challenge."
