Dr. Dale Klein, Chairman

Former Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Message from Dr. Dale Klein, Chairman 2012

I am the former Chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I am working with TEPCO as a member of an independent advisory committee investigating aspects of the Fukushima nuclear accident.

The nuclear accident at Fukushima continues to have a significant impact in Japan and globally. As the committee examines the causes of the Fukushima accident, it can gain critical insight into making nuclear power safer and the best means by which the world can meet its energy needs in the future.

I will work with TEPCO, and the citizens of Japan, to enhance nuclear safety through education and the establishment of a culture of better safety procedures. It is the hope of everyone on the committee, including me, that the Fukushima nuclear accident can, despite it being a tragedy, provide an important learning opportunity. Through study, learning and education, nuclear power can be a safer, more secure part of the global energy supply.
